The Neverending War (modern war)

Around the third closest star to the sun there orbits two planets, Karthan, and Crylite. On the beautiful green planet of Karthan, there exists a race of anthropomorphic creatures that resemble animals from the planet Earth. They were a peaceful and delicate race that had no wars, though they did have an advanced military power, because the closest planet to them, Crylite, a desolate wasteland of a planet, had a very menacing look to it. On the surface of Crylite, there were many volcanoes, oceans of magma, rather than oceans of water, and a violent race of creatures that were dubbed the Dracus by the inhabitants of Karthan. Karthan and Crylite orbit very closely to each other and at roughly the same speed, so they are always near each other (about the distance from the moon to the surface of the earth). For years the Karthanian people lived without much fear from Crylite, but in the year 2578, that all changed dramatically...

"Sergeant Miller, give me a report on those Crylite ships that were detected in this area 6 hours ago." The captain, who happened to be what appeared to be a mix between a tiger and a cougar, bellowed out this order in his booming voice to Sergeant Chase Miller, who happened to be in charge of the radar on the Delta Class Battlecruiser Autumn Glory. Delta Class Battlecruisers were strictly space combat ships armed with one KOC (Karthanian Orbital Cannon) and a crew of 300 men, 200 of wich were trained for intesne combat, both hand to hand and ranged, though hand to hand was more commonly done. Metal was a scarce resource, and mainly used to build warships and battlecruisers and the like.

"Aye Captain." Without looking at the Captain, Chase went straight to work with his radar. "Nothing on the screens now sir. I think it was just a false alarm." Chase Miller was a handsome looking young cat. His fur was a lovely orangeish color and he had brown streaks that covered his body and long, pitch black hair that partialy covered his lovely red eyes.

The Captain let out something short of a growl as he looked over at Chase. "I highly doubt that, son. These detections have been getting closer and closer to our planet every sun cycle and I don't like it one bit." The captain looked back in the direction of the navigation screen wich had a feed to a camera on the front of the hull of the ship, showing them where they were going.

Chase's eyes flashed back to his screen when he heard multiple blips appear. "Sir! Multiple contacts appearing nearby! They're not friendly!" As Chase said this, the captain ordered the entire crew to go immediately to their battlestations. Red lights started flashing throughout the ship as more and more enemy ships appeared on the radar. "Charge the KOC!" The Captain ordered and there was a quiet humming throughout the ships. Not seconds later, there were multiple loud explosions as multiple shots from enemy ships slammed into trhe Autumn Glory. The ship shook furiously at each hit.

"Fire!" The captain ordered and there was a loud THOOM as the KOC sent it's massive laser at an enemy ship. "A direct hit." One officer confirmed as he prepped the cannon for another shot, but it was much to late. Everyone on the bridge saw nothing but a large flash before an enemy round tore through it, killing everyone inside. Not too much later, the entirety of the Autumn Glory burst apart, and the ship, and her crew, were lost.

As Anna followed her mentor her ears twitched and her thick, puma tail fluffed. "Mentor," she said hesitently for she never knew when her mentor would snap at her, "there is something wrong." So saying she looked up at the sky just in time to see the dimm yellow flash of the Autumn Glory exploding.

Mentor grunted her golden retriever tail flicking back and forth, deep brown eyes and long snout pointing toward the sky. "A ship has just been destroyed. That prickling you feel is the life of the ships crew leaving this world for the next."

Anaa gasped and threw her head back to once again look at the brillient blue sky. ""How do you know this?" she asked breathlessly.

Menor looked sideways over her shoulder at Anaa, "Experience my dear, experience," she growled.

Appearance Description: 9'10'' tall, long black hair that flows to his rump, athletic build, blood red fur with a black crescent moon over his left eye. His left eye is vibrant red and his right is a deep black. His battle armor is a dull grey color and composed of three layers of material: 1 inch of treated titanium alloy covering the outside, reinforced with .5 inch diamond plating underneath and covered by a layer of soft gel to prevent rashes from rubbing against his body.

Red lights flashed through the corridors and the un-avoidable racket of the alarms echoed against the metal plating on the inside of the battle cruiser "Jagged Javelin." Soldiers darted about through the corridors as the battle cruiser was being loaded with troops. Jagged Javelin was still docked inside the main hangar of the base "Last Peace." Its crew of 3000 men had been on leave for the weekend, that was until the attack. They poured into the gaping doors of the cruiser as the massive engines began to hum to life. A voice on the intercom echoed through the massive hangar while the roof began to slowly part, and open to allow the cruiser to exit the hangar and head to battle. "Lieutenant Arashi and Anaa, please report to the bridge of the Javelin immediately."

Andre looked up as the sun shone through the open hangar door, and he let out a small sigh as he saw the Karthanian and Crylitian fleets exchanging fire. "Son of a bitch... more zero-gravity combat." He cursed in his native tongue, then he turned his attention back to the door he was to enter to board the cruiser. He closed his eyes and put a mask like object over his face, which wrapped around his head and closed. This was his helmet. He started for the door, and the bridge, his armored feet making a noticeable thud with each step as soldiers rushed past him, the percentage of them not even coming to his shoulders in height.

As he continued his trip upward he could hear the eerie electrical echo of the three KOC's that were built into the ship began humming to life as well. This ship was going to go out hot, and he knew it. The second they were out of the hangar and skybound, those babies would tear apart the sky along with the other cruisers in the area, the "Indefinite Justice" and "Hell's Hammerhead," which were docked in the hangars beside the Jagged Javelin. 'I wonder who this Anaa person is...' Andre thought to himself as he entered the bridge, the percentage of the crew inside quickly standing and saluting him. Andre gave a simple "As you were" and walked up to the captain. "Yes captain?"

Mentor frowned as her and Anaa heard the apprentices name called.

"What would they want with me?" Anaa asked, head cocked to oneside.

Mentor snorted, "The youths these days, no respect, not even the decency to call my apprentece by how they should." her gumbling went on for a cupple more minutes about how the youngers no longer had the respect for the oldest Gild in all the worlds anymore. "Come," she finally barked at Anaa, making her jump, "let's go find out what all this is about."

As they re-angled their path away from the main street towards the hangers Mentor took her shimmering red Healers clock from the small bag that hung from her waist and clipped it at the base of her throat with the silver wind broach, and flung up the hood which completly hid her face into darkness, even her long snout. Anaa hurrid to shadow her mentor, taking out her white Apprentices cloak from her own small bag and flung it around herself, clipping it at the base of her throat with the silver water broach. In the same fluid motion she pulled up her hood hidding her face from view of any that might cross their path.

The hanger was swarming with soldiers runing back and forth, their boots clanging loudly, vibrating inside Anaa's head with the sirens. The soldiers made haste to show their respect to the Healer and Apprentice, going out of their way to make room for them, whispering greetings and bowing slightly.

This seemed to please Mentor for Anaa could see some of the tension of the body hidden within the cloak lessen, "Finally some young ones with their heads screwed on the right way," she muttered.

Anaa was facinated by all the hubbub and couldn't wrap her head arround how the soldiers could move so quickly in their heavy boots, her self and Mentor without a sound on their soft, bare paws.

Mentor finaly turned of the main walk way and onto what Anaa rightfuly took as the place she had been called to. "Captian you've some nerve!" Mentor barked. She walked up to a soldier in heavy armor who apparently was the Captian and held out her hand, palm down, for the Captian to show the proper respect given to a full Healer.

Anaa was amazed at how much taller the Captian and the one who seemed to be Lieutenant Arashi were than her at her height of just 6'.

"While my Apprentice she will be addresed as such," she heard Mentor say coldly, coming back out of her thoughts.

The captain took a respectful bow, and there was clear hesitation in it. "My apologies, great healer, but right now is not a time for formalities. We are in a desperate situation, and are in need of your apprentice. Lieutenant Arashi is being sent into the heart of one of their largest cruisers, the heart of the enemy fleet, to destroy it and throw the enemy assault into confusion. Apprentice Anaa is to accompany him in this mission. She is the only healer, aside from you, that I know to be of enough skill to survive in such a hostile environment. I would send you, Mentor, but you are of too great a value to lose. As cruel as this sounds, Anaa is expendable in comparison. I wish I could say otherwise, but order is all the way down from the top of command." The Tiger's brows furrowed and he looked over at Andre, who stood unmoving at the position of at ease, though his ears moved about as he listened to the conversations around.

"Captain! All systems are prepped and ready for launch. Awaiting your orders, sir!" One of the pilots of the ship announced with his hands firmly on the controls and his feet eagerly against the thruster pedals.

"Good to hear. Clear the hangars and make sure all personel are aboard. As soon as that is done, we are out of here." The captains responded, and no later than a few seconds later, a voice echoed through the hangars. "All personel report to your stations. All maintenance personel and hangar crew, clear the area. We are prepping for launch in five."

The captain then looked back at Andre and Anaa. "You two need to report to bay seven. There is a stealth insurgence craft waiting for you there. When we are within proper distance, you will be flying in under cover of a massive dogfight we intend to use as a distraction. I wish you both luck." With that he snapped to attention and gave a respectful salute, which Andre returned with a small clang of his titanium boots.

Under the cover of her cloak Anaa curtsied, then turned to Mentor.

"Take care apprentice, this is a good time for you to break in that new sword Lady Griven gave you," Mentor said.

Anaa couldn't see Mentor's face but knew she was giving her one of her rare smiles. Anaa grined nastily and curtsied.

Mentor turned to Lieutenant Arashi, "You'd do well to look after my apprentice Liutenant. She is the most knowledgable in herbs and the only left in the noble Healer Gild that has earned the title of Warrior. She is also the last of my apprentices. There shall be no more for me after her." Mentor turned back to Anaa and held out her hand, palm down. Anaa lifted her arm out of the cloak, took Mentor's hand, bent low and brushed it with her lips. "Good luck," Mentor whispered just loud enough for Anaa to here, than she turned and disapered.

Anaa turned to the Lieutenant and stood still, wainting to hear what she must do.

Andre chuckled as Mentor disappeared. "Well, this should be an interesting mission." Andre said in his moderately deep, but gentle voice. He turned and began to walk toward the bay. It would take them at least until launch to get there. These ships were fairly massive, measuring at one mile in length, and at least a few football fields wide and high. Andre looked down at the small girl as she walked beside him. "Try to stay behind me and you should be fine. You would fare as nothing more than an appetizer for the enemy should they get a hold of you."

Anaa grined wikidly, looking only forward, and tossed her head so that the hood on her cloak fell back. "They shall learn quickly that i am an appitizer that bites right back."

"That's good to hear, but none the less, be careful. Your Mentor complains enough as is, I don't want to have to deal with her should you die on this mission." Andre said rather coldly, but he spoke the truth. He not only hated to be complained to, but he also REALLY hated losing a comrade that was his responsibility to look after.

"Careful is my middle name," Anaa said with a hissing laugh

She unclasped her cloak and whiped it off with a florish. For a moment her apprentice gown shown but with unother blink the gown was gone and instead she wore her warrior leathers, a two piece black leather set that consisted a tight fiting, high collar vest that allowed her arms to move freely and full length pants that stretched and moved with her so she could run and jump at ease. Her feet remained bare but she pulled a pair of gloves from the little pouch at her side and pulled them on. Then she reached deep with the drawstring bag and drew her pride and joy; a starsilver sword its gard a gleaming gold and its pomel black leather with gold wire wrapped around it for a good grip, sheathed in a hardend black sheath decorated with a hand beaded design of a water dragon.

Anaa buckled the sword around her waist as she walked side by side with the Lieutenant with the sword on her left hip, a long throwing knife settled on her right and fixed a second throwing knife into the hidden sheath on the right side of her right calf. As a final touch she tied her long hair back into a knot at the base of her neck.

"At least it would have been if my mother had known the meaning of the word," she added with a sly smile.

Andre looked down at her, his expression hidden behind the gleaming black glass that covered the face of his helm. A small smirk crawled across his face inside the muzzle of his helm, then he looked forward as they were greeted by the squad of men that was to assist him in getting inside the enemy ship.

"Sir! It's good to see you! We are prepped and ready for launch. Now we just have to wait for the captain to do his part, and we're golden." The soldier smiled and saluted, but Andre could tell they were ecstatic to see the Lieutenant. Super Soldiers were a rare commodity in this war, since the percentage of their battalion had been wiped out in a surprise attack from the enemies main ship.

Andre glanced out the open bay doors as he heard the intercom echoing with this countdown for the launch of the great cruisers. "Launch in five... four... three... two... one... Ignition!"

There was a deep boom and the ship shook as the bottom thrusters blared to life, lifting the ship from the ground. Everyone in the bay wobbled on their feet except for Andre and Anaa. "Let's get to the drop ships. Things are gonna get hot." Andre ordered, and everyone moved to the largest ship in the bay.

Anaa slipped in behind the Leutenant. She made sure not to look out of any of the windows they passed and instead staired strait ahead. She didn't much like heights but as long as she kept her mind busy she'd be fine. Instead of thinking about how high they might be going she started to name each of the healing herbs in alphabetical order as it had been drilled into her since she was 5.

Andre watched out the bay doors as the insides of the hangar flew by until there was no more, and it was the open fields that the base was hidden beneath. Andre could see off in the distance the falling rubble of the Karthanian ships that were being blown out of the air. The wreckage of the Autumn Glory had already hit earth, and it lay there in a burning heap, the grass around it burning ferociously. Behind it another ship was falling to the ground, and he could see that the pilot was trying to get it to glide so the impact wouldn't be as rough, but there was no use. The massive ship belly-flopped into the field, and explosions burst throughout the inside before there was one final blast, and the entire ship erupted into a plume of fire, metal, and smoke.

Andre grabbed onto the support bars inside the dropship as the cruiser began to shift into a firing position, and the three KOC cannons screamed to life, the sound of them going off echoing through the atmosphere. He could see one of the shots from the Hell's Hammerhead blare by the bay door, the heat from it pouring inside, and a bright blue light flooded the bay. Everyone shielded there eyes, and could feel the static of the shot filling their fur. Off in the distance they could hear the massive explosions and the screaming sound of reactors failing as the lasers tore through the enemy ships. The cruiser hummed as it charged it's next salvo.

"Such an incredible amount of power!" Andre marveled as he shook his fur to rid it of the static.

Anaa glared out of the window, forgetting about the hight for the moment, rubbing her soar ears. "Should have brought ear plugs," she muttered to herself.

Andre looked over at Anaa and then yelled loudly, in a sarcastic manner. "WHAT?!" Everyone in the dropship chuckled heartily and held on tight as the ship quickly ascended into the air, getting of equal height with the massive enemy ship that Andre had been put in charge of personally annihilating.

The KOC cannons hummed to life once more, and there was a loud shriek as they fired all at once at max power. There was a large screen in the hangar that displayed a frontal view of the Jagged Javelin, and they watched as the three lazers tore through the hull of the enemy flagship with ease, also tearing through a few of the enemy's cruisers as well. Three massive holes were left in the hull, and then the order to attack echoed through the ship. "All personnel, launch the assault! Get inside that ship!"

With that, the pilot of the dropship closed the doors and hollered, "Hang on!" The ships cloaking device kicked in, and the ship vanished, and then blasted at high velocity out of the bay into the heat of the battle.

Anaa glared at him as she went down into a hunters croutch. "Haha very funny, i'll be sending you my docters bill. And Mentor's anger."

After a few seconds Anaa's face lit up with a little "ooh" sound and she dug into her bag. Blindly she opened the hearb case an pulled out a little baggy. She poured out just a pinch of the leaves and then tipped her head to each side, sprinkling an equal amount onto each ear. Smiling to herself she stowed the little baggie back into its place in the hearb case.

Andre's eyes lay fixed on the doors of the dropship as he waited impatiently for them to reach the drop zone. Agonizing minutes went by as they flew through the chaos in the air. He pinned back his ears here and there when the sound of the KOC cannons ripped through the air.

After a few more agonizing minutes dragged by, there was a slight silence, meaning they had either reached the outside of the dogfight area, or they were now inside the enemy ship. A few more minutes went by, and the dropship came to a noticeable halt, and started to turn. The doors opened, and Andre did not hesitate. He charged the door and leaped out, and held his arms in the air as he braced himself for the hard landing of the 200ft drop.

There was a bang as he hit the ground, and he rolled, glancing back at the dropship for only a moment as it lowered itself to a safe drop distance for the rest of the soldiers. He pulled his assault rifle from his back and took aim at the enemy soldiers ahead. He started to open fire, and they dropped one by one as bullets tore through their bodies before they even realized what was going on.

Anaa did a sumersault and landed next to the Leutenant. She glanced around quickly to gadge the situation, then spun to the right, nocked a sword out of the way and skewerd the first of the Dracus. A shift in the air warned her of an on coming fist. She ducked and shifted on her toes so that her sword ripped open the things stomach, jumping up and away before the fould blood could stain her fur.

Andre, fully aware of the hostiles behind him, yelled at Anaa to duck. As she did so, a small piece of metal dropped from Andre's back, into his hand, and it extended into his titanium pole, which he swung with all his might right over her head, knocking back the small squad of enemies behind him. When he spun back around he brought the end of it down onto the head of one of them, crushing it's skull. He then thrust his pole behind him, catching one of the enemies in the gut. Andre spun and swung his staff again, catching it in the neck with the tip of the pole, and there was a small crack as it's neck was snapped and it dropped to the ground. By this time, the dropship had finally touched down and the platoon of soldiers under his command poured from the two bay doors on either side, their guns blaring at the enemy as they began to exchange fire.

Anaa jumped up onto the head of the nearest Dracus and jabbed her sword down between the vertebrate of the things neck. As it fell she jumped to the next and continued the proses till she endded up near the Leutenant once again. She looked around and her eyes went wide. The Leutenant was busy with one of the larger Dracus not noticing the one that was sneaking up behind him.

"Leutenant Arashi duck!" She shouted pulling the knife on her hip out and throwing it end over end so it sailed right over the Leutenant and into the Dracus' neck.

Andre glanced behind him to see the beast drop, then he lifted the one he was tussling with into the air, then slammed it onto the ground with a great amount of force. When he stood back up, a bullet connected with the side of his helm, making him tumble to the side. When he stood, another hit him again, making him fall to the ground. He didn't move for a moment, but then he started to push himself to his feet with a groan, holding his head in one of his hands. "Ohhh... fuck me..." He cursed in his native tongue once more.

Anaa glanced over at him, knocking a sword that came down at her neck away and cutting the asalters head off. "Need a bit of help Leutenant!" she called, laughter clear in her voice.

Andre shook his head and jumped to his feet, delivering a powerful kick to the chest cavity of his next attacker. "Nope! I'm good! That's why I love this armor!" He chuckled at himself, then he slammed his large fist into the throat of the one he had just kicked, then gave it a strong boot to the groin, which lifted it into the air, then he grabbed it's head and slammed it down on his knee. He tossed the poor victim to the side, then he quickly dropped onto his stomach and withdrew his sniping rifle from his back. He took aim with it and began to fire, one shot at a time, clearing the way to the building ahead. The inside of the ship was a massive dome, hollow and much resembling that of a planet. There were cities that could easily hold thousands of inhabitants, and even foliage and landscape. As Andre finished off the final dracus in the way, he looked back to see Anaa finishing the final one behind him, and his platoon heading in the other direction toward their objective. "Keep me posted guys." Andre spoke into the com.

Anaa looked at him as she twisted and then jerked her sword out of the Dracus' chest. "I'm gusing i'm supposed to follow you," she said with an eybrow raised, going to recolect her knife.

Andre put his rifle back on his back, the magnetized surface holding it firmly in place. "Yes, you are. They are to secure our escape route and we are to get to the heart of the ship and destroy the reactor."

Anaa walked up beside him, head cocked to one side, "Reactor?"

"There is a massive photon reactor at the center of this ship that supplies energy to the entirety of it. We have to trip the reactor and cause a melt down, which would implode the entire ship, most likely causing an unstable black hole which would then collapse and destroy the entirety of this attacking fleet." Andre informed her casually as he began to walk toward the spire that lie before them. It was a long trip they were to make. The ship was a good twenty miles across, making their trip at least ten.

"Hm sounds like fun," Anaa said with a raised eyebrow. "And, enlighten me, how exactly are we going to get out of the way once we've caused the meltdown?"

Not looking back at her, Andre continued to walk forward. "Still working on that bit."

"Wounderful," Anaa sighed, rolling her eyes.

"Yeah. Great fun." Andre commented sarcastically as they walked through the doors to the spire. It was empty inside, and dark. The light filtering through the doorway gave it an eerie feel. Andre tapped the side of his helmet, which engaged this night vision. "Let's keep going. There's an elevator in here somewhere that will take us down to the bottom level where we need to be."

"It's right there," Anaa said pointing, gratefull for the 3rd time in her life that she had perfect night vision curtisy of her ancestors.

Andre looked where she had pointed, and smiled behind his helmet. "Good call Anaa. Let's hurry." He said and made a quick dash for the lift.

Anaa shock her head, rolling her eyes, muttered, "Males," and hopped in after him.

Andre glanced at her. "What exactly is that supposed to mean?" He asked her as he slammed his fist down on the hologram to activate the lift.

Anaa slowly turned her head to look at him, one eyebrow raised, "Take a guess."

The lift started to go down and Andre returned her look with an expressionless glare. "I wouldn't know. I've not had much experience with female sarcasm."

Anaa grinned devilishly, "Never mind then."

Andre frowned under his helm, then looked upward and watched as the walls flew upward as they went down. Eventually they stopped, and they were not floating on the large platform as it neared the end of it's descent. Andre glanced around at the empty space around them, finally focusing his attention on the terrain that was still a good two hundred yards below them. "I don't see how the hell they managed to even build these things, let alone get them off the ground and into space. It just baffles me." Andre mused as he continued to look around as they kept floating downward.

"Maybe they are smarter then you give them credit for," Anaa suggested, feeling a little dissy as she looked up watching the floors flash past.

"I'm not saying that I didn't think they were intelligent enough. I'm very aware of how smart they are. It's just the fact of the resources, and just sheer time it would take to basically build a small planet. It baffles me." He tapped the chin of his helmet with his armor finger, making a small clank as he did so.

Anaa winced slightly at each clang, laying her ears flat. "Perhaps their home is richer than we thought," she shrugged. "I am not knowledgeable in these areas, only the healing herbs and the ways of the sword."

"Well, it has nothing to do with money, really. I just didn't think that a their planet contained to much metal. But then again, it IS a volcanic planet." He shrugged and started to get irritated with the length of the drop down. "This is already getting old... and we still have another lift to go down." He growled.

Anaa rolled her eyes, smaking a hand into her forehead. "That's what i meant by rich Leutenant, rich in natural resorces." She blew a lock of hair that had escaped the knot out of her face and looked down. "How meny levels is this thing?"

"I'm sorry, but typically when someone says rich, money comes to mind, not resources." He gave her a heat-full retort then huffed in his helmet. "I have no clue how many levels there are for this thing. My altitude sensor is off because this thing is in the air."

Anaa grinned to herself but said nothing, instead choosing to just stair ahead thinking about (with a shiver) of how much work Mentor would find in the garden for her to do when she got back onto nice, solid land.

Andre tapped his armored foot impatiently as the lift continued to go down, until finally he let out a frustrated growl. "All right, fuck this. Hang on." As he said that he picked Anaa up around the waist and charged toward the edge of the lift. He leaped off without hesitation, and the two of them fell at an incredible speed, Andre holding her tightly so she would not fly above him as she was much lighter than he.

"yyyeeeeeeoooo!!!!!!!" Anaa yowled. "a little more warning would have been nice!" she continued, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck so she was choking him, eyes wide and watering with their speed.

"Hang on." Is all he said again, not a second before they slammed into the ground. He had maneuvered them to where he was between her and the ground. The impact left a crater of considerable size for how large he was. He let out a small groan as the impact had only knocked the air from his lungs for a moment. "You okay?" He asked her. They had made a good 1000 foot drop.

Anaa roled onto her back, panting lightly, "nothing broken. you've just reminded me why i hate hights." she did a backward sumersalt and rolled onto her feet. glancing around she sadi, "i'm guessing we've landed where we need to be?"
